Sunrise and a Sparrow
Up before dawn to try catch the early light. There was a bit of a rumble of distant thunder … though from the looks of the morning sky it seems unlikely there would be a sudden storm this morning [the season for the "Kaal Baisakh" - violent Nor'wester storms is coming up soon]. Drove out to Ashulia, and turned left on to N501 toward Sarulia. I’d been on this ‘back-road’ before from Mirpur to Ashulia and had noticed a large expanse of silt and sand that had been pumped out of the river to dredge it. The landscape had looked interesting to go photograph. I got a few photos of the sunrise [taken from inside the car!] … to leave the car on the side of the fairly deserted road and wander off with fancy-looking camera gear did not seem like a prudent thing to do…. there were several strange looking characters hanging-out so I drove to the end till I got to “civilization” and turned back to Dhaka. I’d also noticed many kingfishers and drongos along the river banks, on a previous drive – there were none this morning. Got a photo of a House Sparrow though, a pair come to the shrubbery on the terrace to pull off bits of stringy bark for their nest. Setup a remote SB800 on the ledge outside and another on-camera in Nikon’s CLS mode, all I had to do was wait for one of the birds to come in…really close.

The sunrise is breathtaking – not sure of the murky sparrow though!
