…it really pours. The pent-up monsoon finally breaking through.
We woke to the sound of water lapping at the sides of the walls at 2:30 AM. First thought on waking was, nah that cant be can it? But that’s how it was. Inches of water in the bedroom and it has flowed out under the door into the next room as well. The storm drain was too small to cope with the tons of water pouring down the building, and so it found a path of no resistance from the balcony into our room! Went out to clear the clogged drainage, saw the rain was coming down in sheets.
A park in the city looks like a swamp today.
The streets like muddy rivers.
And you sound so calm!! Never having experieced anything like that, I find the thought terribly frightening. I hope you are all right there.
has the water receded today?
Somewhat yes. Yesterday, the Baridhara + Gulshan lakes overflowed and had joined across the Baridhara road. The lanes leading to the lakes were flooded, most of Mirpur and Old DOHS areas were too. The airport road was shut for several hours. Our street [Rd 56] is still partly flooded….
cant imagine being water logged in dhaka as it didn’t happen in all the time we were there. cant say the same about cal as it happened every year and still continues. hope things are back to normal today.
