Took a side road on my way from Simla to Chandigarh, got off the highway at Solan onto the track to Sabhatu. Something I’ve never done before. The road and scenery were beautiful, though the “road” was more for a powerful 4-wheel-drive vehicle and not the type I was in - slipping and sliding on the rough and slushy pot-hole ridden road, we made it safely just fine. Stopped near Sabhatu to explore the area a bit, and found this old step-well which had a Shiv carving in the center. I remember the stories my Ayah [Nanny] would tell me about this region [she belonged to Sabhatu] and the baolies [step-wells] where they would go to wash laundry. The painting style inside this baoli reminded me of the Shekhawati paintings of Rajasthan! Wonder if there is some connection here?

What beautiful shapes and textures in these structures. That road sounds rather treacherous, but I am glad you braved it for these photographs.
The hillsides were carpeted with orange and yellow Lantana. Did not pause to photograph the flowers though as it rained very heavily all along the journey.
