Inspiration

At an exhibition in the mid 80′s, I had chanced upon 2 lithographs done in 1980 by Bangladeshi artist / master print-maker Mizanur Rahim while he was working in Belgium. These are “abstract” style images of a wind blown view from a window and the other is of a room with gauzy blinds and light streaming in. Years later, I found 3 of his etchings done between 1978 and 1987 tucked away at a local art gallery. These are “portraits”, in a broad sense! I look at these pieces of art and am inspired to try imitate his style in B&W photography. The B&W photo I put on my blog yesterday was done with this in mind. I also did two more, ultra close-ups of Dahlia flowers, and here these are. I am not attempting to make the photos look like sketches or paintings – but to get the shading and the “feeling” that is similar to Rahim’s work.  I will add a photo of one of his artwork here later…
