Melting bitumen to re-pave the street – hot, choking smokey, sticky and acrid. For them, just another day earning a livelihood.
A photo journal and some ramblings…

READY? SET… GO!!  That’s what the t-shirts said for a “fun run” organized by a friend to raise money for a breast cancer fund. Getting almost 100 people into a group photo was a tough one though. Luckily I had a super-wide lens in the bag, and there was a staircase I could climb for [...]

SKWPW 2009. One can plan, but one can’t be sure the plan will work as planned. That’s what happened. It did not work out like planned. A mishap along the way prevented me reaching the meet. The images from the other Walkers should start appearing at the SKWPW pages online soon though, and these are [...]

Scott Kelby’s world-wide photo walk. Just over a week later, 18th July to be exact, approximately 45,000 participants [if all walks fill up to the 50 participants max each] from around the world will walk Scott Kelby’s 2nd Worldwide Photo Walk. Last year’s [Dhaka] SKWPW in August was a lot of fun, enjoyed meeting new [...]

Day 4: The Jatrabari bridge across the Buriganga river. Drove out to try locate an aea where, apparently, the local Sarees in brightly dyed colors are hung out to dry. I’ve seen these before too and the image in my minds-eye was clear. I was expecting to come across brilliant fabrics in all colors and [...]

Day 3 [at the abandoned Rail Yard]: A commonly used “by-pass” or short-cut to the airport from the city, passes along the rail tracks where many old rusting rail wagons have been used as temporary housing by the homeless… and small “bastis” or make-shift homes made from bamboo, plastic sheeting and thatch had sprung up [...]

Day 2: The chicken market in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar area. This market is wholesale veggies, fruit, chicken, goats…. and probably some spices… not sure. Vendors crushing fresh sugarcane for thirsty workers, the sherbet-sellers doing brisk business, “paan” and cigarette vendors carrying trays of their wares slung from straps around their necks. A busy place. And [...]

Switched my theme. Came back to taking street photos and enjoyed SoFoBoMo day-one to the hilt. The Fish Market at Karwan Bazar opens early morning everyday. A but slushy and smelly but the activity and atmosphere were just great for a early morning photo outing… The fish traders, buyers, helpers, hanger-ons, innocent bystanders, trucks, rickshaws, [...]

SHUVO NOBO BORSHO! It is the 1st day of the first month Baishak year 1416 as per the Bengali calendar. A Happy New Year! Spent the early part of the morning with a group of local photographers hanging-out at Dhaka University and the Institute of Fine Arts [Charukala]. Great festivities and literally millions of [...]

A friend organized a FunRun fund-raiser on Dec 9th 09 to assist a co-worker at her office. I did not run, but walked and took some photos for the team….   That’s not fog or mist in the 3rd photo – but clouds of dust billowing from the morning street-sweeping. You can see one of the [...]
